Tim Lahey
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Age: 20
Weight: 204 lbs
Height: 6’2”
Mutant Factor Abilities: Tim can manipulate rock and semi-natural
materials such as concrete, cement and asphalt . To date, he has
managed a rather rough control over his abilities – form walls and pillars,
create localized tremors (with limited control over the intensity of such
quakes).
However, in order to use his abilities, he must be in physical
contact with the Earth or at least with a floor that is part of a structure
that is in contact with the ground (i.e. powers don’t work while aboard a
flying plane).
Institute Biographical Profile:
Tim, the youngest of the four Lahey boys, grew up rough housing it with his
brothers and friends on the streets and beaches of Pacific Beach (PB), a
working class part of San Diego.
Like his brothers and all the other guys in PB, Tim spent his youth surfing
and skating and generally just hanging out with the guys along the boardwalk
shooting the shit and perfecting his tough guy image/attitude. He got
into the ever present surf/punk scene in San Diego and got his first tat at
around fourteen. As his mom would say, “It was all downhill from
there” and by the time he was eighteen, Tim’s left arm had a full sleeve,
his right arm a half sleeve of tats not to mention the star on his neck, the
three-pronged crown on his left peck and the large one of ‘Lahey’ in Old
English
script across his upper back.
In high school, he ditched class often, preferring to surf all day when the
sets were rollin’ or snag a burrito and knock back a few when they weren’t.
His life was headed the way his older brothers’ had – a job working
construction that afforded them enough dough to live in PB and keep them in
beer and surf wax. No problem, if it weren’t for two things.
When Tim was about sixteen, he found himself becoming more and more
attracted to Parker, his brother’s best friend and water polo player
extraordinaire. It was this attraction (which he didn’t admit himself)
that got Tim pumping the weights because, even though he never consciously
admitted it, going to the gym afforded him more time around Parker who, when
not in the pool, seemed to be at the gym. And with the Lahey genetics,
Tim was packing on the muscles just a few short months after first stepping
into the gym. He liked what he saw and so, apparently, did Parker.
It was about a year after he first starting going to the gym and Tim was
just leaving when he heard Parker call his name.
“Wanna ride home?” Parker asked.
“Right on,” was Tim’s acceptance.
On the way home, Tim’s heart was beating uncontrollably fast and it was at
this moment that he knew he couldn’t deny that he was gay and in total lust
after Parker. His heart was pounding so loudly that he barely heard
Parker say, “Dude, you’ve gotten pretty big. You’re not usin’ ‘roids
are you?” He
smiled and patted Tim’s thigh to let Tim know he was just kidding.
What Parker did next though, would change Tim’s life forever- he left his
hand on Tim’s thigh. That night, Tim had sex for the first time and he
and Parker continued their clandestine relationship until that fateful day
six months
later when Tim’s family caught them having sex.
The shock and embarrassment (he’ll never forget the look on his mother’s,
father’s and brothers’ faces) was so intense that something inside Tim
triggered. He felt a flash of energy course through him and his eyes
began to glow an unearthly green.
The earth literally rumbled and the ground heaved beneath everyone knocking
his family down and flinging a naked Tim and Parker out of the bed.
The house was creaking, the ground began to shot up in pillars here and
there and everyone was screaming in terror. The mayhem didn’t stop
until his oldest brother managed to reach Tim and punch him hard in the jaw.
As if turning off a light switch, everything calmed and Tim’s eyes returned
to their normal hue.
Surprisingly, his family was more concerned with Tim being a mutant than
they were with his being gay (oh, they had problems with it - after all
their little hard-core punk listening surfer kid was…well you know).
Parker on the other hand, didn’t want anything to do with Tim afterwards.
And it
was this more than anything else that made Tim accept his parents’ decision
to send him away to some school back East.
At the school though, Tim found others like him (in more ways than one) and
he slowly began to accept both sides of himself, although he still has flare
ups of machismo every now and then. He was just making significant
progress when the school was destroyed. Feeling a sense of duty that
he had
never known before, Tim decided to stay with his newfound brethren in the
hopes of making the world a safer place for every kind of person.
Institute Biological Profile:
Tim has no superhuman strength, speed or stamina. He is, however,
above average in strength due to his extensive weight lifting regimen that
he has been following since the age of sixteen. He has a good sense of
balance due to his surfing/skating background.
Institute Psychological Profile:
Tim is very reluctant to share his feelings/emotions with others whether his
emotions be good or bad. This has the tendency to aggravate Tim’s
feelings of alienation (although he feels this much less when he’s around
the guys from The Institute). He also has not fully come to terms with
his homosexuality in that he fears people will think him weak or a pansy if
they knew he was gay. This results in Tim acting overly aggressive at
times. This also makes him easy to anger. Usually, a trusted
friend can calm him down, but without any friends around, Tim tends to rush
into arguments and
fights.
